Create 1v1 and 2v2 attacking duels in the final third to help players understand how to use their body strength when receiving the ball with their back to goal.

Biography

After a playing career that started at Tottenham Hotspur and took in lengthy periods at Bournemouth and Luton Town, Stephen Robinson moved into coaching with the Northern Ireland national youth teams. He gained a reputation as a top coach and was appointed first team coach under Michael O’Neill, helping the Northern Irish to the European Championship finals of 2016.

In club football, Robinson joined Scottish Premier League side Motherwell as assistant manager in February 2015. After a stint as manager of Oldham Athletic, he returned to Motherwell in February 2017 as Mark McGhee’s first team coach. Following McGhee’s departure, he was appointed manager in March 2017.

In his first full season in charge at Fir Park, he guided the club to the finals of the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup but they finished as runners up to Celtic on both occasions. This was the first time the club had appeared in both domestic finals since the 1950-51 season. In 2020, Motherwell finished third in the league, qualifying for Europe.

After a spell in England as manager of newly promoted EFL League One side Morecambe, Robinson returned to Scottish football in February 2022 to become manager of St Mirren and in his first full season in charge, the club finished in the top six for first time in 40 years.
